Terrace Roof Waterproofing
WATERPROOFING FOR TERRACE ROOFS
The slope concrete in the terrace roof slab must be laid as machine-troweled concrete with a C20/25 concrete grade. The prepared concrete surface must be cleaned. For parapet surfaces, first, the surface should be cleaned of oil, rust, dirt, dust, and loose materials that cannot adhere to the surface. Surface defects such as segregation and cold joints must be corrected according to the structural repair mortar technique. When the surface is dry, bitumen primer should be applied in such a way that it is consumed at a minimum of 0.400 kg/m² (TS 113). Once the bitumen primer has dried, a bitumen-based waterproofing membrane modified with SBS (Styrene Butadiene Styrene) polymer, with a homogeneous thickness of 5 mm, containing no carrier felt or filler materials (such as calcite) in its structure or surface, and capable of stretching up to 1600% in all directions, retaining its flexibility at -25°C, and featuring a PE film on its top and bottom surfaces that allows full adhesion to the ground, self-healing, and three-dimensional processing, should be applied in a single layer.
Since full adhesion will be applied to the terrace roof slab and parapet concrete, the waterproofing membrane should be bonded entirely to the concrete surface by overlapping 10 cm longitudinally and 15 cm transversely, using a torch without flaming the bitumen.
Note: After the application is completed, the waterproofing should be protected with a minimum of 300 g/m² geotextile felt before the protective concrete is laid. On parapets, the finishing/binding strip should be applied to the endpoint of the waterproofing to complete the application.
